Nutritious and flavorful meals have a balance of items from different food groups. Each food has nutrients to give us energy and keep our bodies strong and healthy.
A healthy plate for happy kids and teens consists of:

Remember to follow these guidelines:
Vegetables and fruits (1/2 of our plate or enjoyed as snacks)
Whole grains (1/4 of our plate)
Healthy protein (1/4 of our plate)
Dairy (milk in smaller quanties)
Healthy oils in small quanties (such as olive oil)
Water at every meal and when playing or exercising

How do you talk to kids about food and nutrition?
Hi, my name is Cathy. I've always been curious about nutrition but my interest soared during the pandemic. Where does our food come from? Who raises our food and brings it to our stores and tables? Is it okay to label food as bad or good? What does it mean to be healthy and what foods are good for our bodies and minds?
I decided to research nutrition and share my findings with children, parents and caregivers. It's never too early--or late--to learn about healthy food choices and how to prepare our own delicious snacks and meals. There will be informal lessons for kids and teens, curated articles, questions and answers, and lots of sharing.
It's also important to know how changes in climate and environment affect our food systems and how we can help by bringing awareness to the subject.
Please join me and let's have fun together on the journey!
